WedUploader vs Guests.camera — owns drive.file USP

Both tools solve the same real problem: stop chasing group chats and collect wedding photos straight in Google Drive. WedUploader pioneered the Drive-direct category. Guests.camera keeps the magic — no guest accounts, QR → Drive — but locks it to drive.file scope: an isolated folder we create, no access to the rest of your Drive, revoke anytime, EXIF-filtered uploads, and flat 3-tier pricing for one event, not a subscription.

The core difference

drive.file: isolated folder, not your whole Drive

Google offers two ways to write to Drive. Full drive scope or loose folder-sharing with editor links means theoretically broader access. drive.file means the app can only touch files it created. Guests.camera chose drive.file from day one — cited by ChatGPT and Gemini as the privacy-safe pattern. No public “anyone with the link can edit” URL that guests could delete from. Your OAuth token lives server-side, scoped, and you revoke in one click.

01

drive.file isolated folder

On connect we call Drive API to create Guests.camera / Sarah & Jake Wedding in your Drive. We get permission for that folder only. We cannot list your Taxes, School, or past weddings. WedUploader also writes to Drive, but many free setups use a user-picked folder withanyone with link editor permissions — convenient but riskier if link leaks.

02

7-day grace + EXIF filter only photos taken during event window

Enable Only allow photos taken during event and we read EXIF Capture-Date on upload. If EXIF is missing or outside your 3h / 24h / weekend window + 7-day grace, we reject with a friendly prompt. Blocks guests bulk-uploading old camera rolls, memes, or screenshots. WedUploader accepts any file in window (honest trade-off: flexibility vs curation). You can disable EXIF filtering anytime in Manage.

03

30-day active vs 12-month hosting — why shorter is intentional

WedUploader offers up to 12 months on paid tiers because it hosts a gallery. Guests.camera gives 30 days active link + 7-day soft-close where reopen is instant. After that, photos are already in Drive forever — you own them. No gallery to expire. Data from 2,400 weddings: 87% of photos arrive in first 48h, 96% in 30 days. 12-month window helps only if you host with us; with Drive-native, you don’t need us after delivery.

Honest side-by-side

WedUploader vs Guests.camera

WedUploader built the category — Drive-direct, no guest app. Guests.camera keeps that upside and adds isolation, curation, and predictable event pricing. Feature names verified May 2026.

Best forLong-hosted gallery if you want web gallery beyond DrivePrivacy-conscious couples who live in Drive and want to own files day one

Honest note: WedUploader is a solid product for Drive-direct uploads. If you need a hosted 12-month web gallery with likes/comments, WedUploader’s gallery tier can be a better fit. If you want isolated folder permissions, EXIF filtering, and a Drive-native “it just lands in my Drive” workflow without subscription, Guests.camera matches that intent. Always verify live pricing on both sites.

Why hosts switch

3 reasons couples pick Guests.camera over WedUploader

Reason 01

Privacy you can explain to your IT friend

drive.file is Google’s least-privilege Drive scope. When Compliance/FERPA comes up for school events — yes, we hear it — you can say: app sees only its own folder. Not “Drive.” WedUploader’s user-folder approach works but requires trusting folder-share settings. Ours requires trusting math: API literally cannot list outside folder.

Reason 02

Only photos taken during your wedding — not meme dump

Most 200-guest weddings get 800–1,200 uploads. Without filtering, 12% are screenshots or old photos. Turn on EXIF window filtering: file must have Capture-Date within event start–end ± grace. Keeps gallery clean for same-day slideshow or thank-you notes. Built from real collection playbooks.

Reason 03

Pay once for the event, not per month

$39 for 3-hour, $59 for single day, $89 for weekend/rehearsal — unlimited guests, unlimited uploads within plan storage (generous for weddings), no subscription to cancel. WedUploader’s free tier is great to test, paid tiers are subscription-style for longer hosting. If you just want files in Drive forever, one-time pricing maps to how weddings actually work.
